Panther girls win Lovell Invitational

A shifting schedule did not slow down the Panther girls’ track team, as it ran away with the Lovell Invitational on Thursday by 85 points over the rest of the competition.

Overall, the Panthers win was paced by eight individual first place finishes.

Senior Jenna Hillman won the 100 meter dash with a 13.02 and the 400 meter dash with a 1:01.05; freshman Kenna Jacobsen won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.17; senior Abigail Urbach won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.35; sophomore Lauryn Bennett won the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 1 inch; sophomore Waycee Harvey won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7 inches; junior Sydney Spomer won the triple jump with a jump of 33 feet 1 1/2 inches; and junior Grace Coombs won the discus with a throw of 106 feet, 7 inches.

The relay team of Harvey, Jenna Hillman, Megan Jacobsen and Anna Bartholomew won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:29.45.

“It was great to get to play in the sun with little wind for most of the day,” Panther track coach Scott Smith said. “It really makes it more fun for all of us than just practicing in the cold and wind.”

Other top achievers for the Panthers included Harvey placing third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.37; Bartholomew placing third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.15; and sophomore Brynn Hillman placing second in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:59.94 and third in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:00.07.

Freshman Charity Siggins placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.61; Bennett placed third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.05; sophomore Kenzie Ratcliff placed second high jump after clearing 4 feet, 9 inches, while fellow sophomore Addy Thorington placed just behind her, tied for third after clearing 4 feet, 7 inches.

Kenna Jacobsen placed second in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, 7 inches; senior Reagan Thompson placed second in the shot put throwing 36 feet, 3 inches; and senior Megan McDaniel placed third in discus after throwing 95 feet, 8 inches.

After the overall strong performance, Smith is hoping that his team continues to get out and compete over the coming weeks, as the regional meet starts two weeks from Friday.

“I really like the way that many of our kids are getting out, competing hard and gaining more confidence,” he said.

The Panthers will use the rest of this week to practice before making the short trip over to Rocky Mountain in Cowley on Saturday to take part in an invitational. No scheduled start time has been announced at this time.
