DUBOIS — All area, Road, and Trail Closures associated with the Pack Trail Fire have been lifted, according to a release from the Forest Service. This does not mean the area is safe, but rather the need for the emergency closure due to active fire and firefighting resources in the area has passed. Numerous hazards remain, so caution is advised.
As of 6 a.m. Monday, the Pack Trail Fire Area, Road, and Trail Closure has been lifted. Resources are still working in the area so people are asked to be aware that one may experience short term delays when travelling through the area.
While the fire is not completely out, forest users are permitted throughout the fire footprint and surrounding roads and trails. Burned areas are susceptible to a variety of hazards such as erosion and roads that are more prone to shifting, along with fire weakened trees. Trees that remain standing but were exposed to ground fire can be easily blown over due to burned out roots or soil that no longer has vegetation holding it in place.
