Powell fans of miniature golf will finally have a place to play locally this weekend.
Dreamy Putz, located alongside the American Dream Drive-In, opens to the public Saturday morning at 11 a.m. following a tournament for business sponsors.
The course, built by the Henys, who also own the drive-in, will feature 19 holes — the last being the prize hole. All of the holes are sponsored by local businesses, and all feature objects and obstacles related to the business. For instance, Body & Paint by Tait's hole includes vehicles people need to putt around, while competitors are tasked with hitting around "sold" and "sale pending" signs at the Metzler and Moore Realty hole.
"I think it'll be great," Scott Heny said Wednesday morning as he worked on finishing touches.
The golf course hours will be from 11 a.m. to dusk Saturday and Sunday, as weather allows. The theater begins shows at dusk, so the operations won’t run concurrently.
Back in the spring, when Heny had brought a special use permit for the course before the county commissioners, he said the hope was to get the course finished before the end of the summer — with the Saturday opening, he accomplished that goal.
“I think it’s a great fit for the community,” Commissioner Lloyd Thiel said at the time.
