Melvin ‘Leroy’ Davey

Melvin “Leroy” Davey of Powell, Wyoming passed away on May 1, 2024 at the age of 94. He spent his final days with the love of his life, and wife of 71 years, Margaret Brickzen Davey. They met at a supper nightclub in Billings, and he didn’t let her out of his sight after that night.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Marge, his daughters Jacquie Davey and Susan Davey and JoAnn Davey McCrae (deceased), his son-in-law Keith, his grandson Brett McCrae (Kate), his granddaughter Kristen McCrae McMullan (Barrett), and his three great-granddaughters Belle, Hadley and Margaret.

During summers, Leroy was Wyoming’s only full-time viewer of the Tour de France, which was just a small exhibit of his love of cycling. He was a daily rider of the OGL (Old Guy Loop) — a 24-mile stretch west of Powell. Motorists in the area can now drive safely knowing that Leroy is off the road. He loved being outside and shared that love with many friends and family.

Leroy was a lifelong teacher to many students at Powell High School where he taught math for 33 years, but also to his daughters who he raised to be strong and independent women, and to his grandson who he trained to be a fly fisherman, and his granddaughter who he taught to love the outdoors. He loved his family, his students and his Powell community very much — and gave them everything he had.

Although we will never see Leroy again, if you stop and listen for a minute — there’s no doubt you’ll hear him. He was one-of-a-kind and will be missed dearly.
