In celebration of the Center of the West’s Buffalo Nation: America at 250, the McCracken Research Library invites readers to explore the powerful history, ecology, and cultural legacy of the American bison through a thoughtfully curated four-book series. Participants may join either in person or virtually, making this book club accessible to readers everywhere.
The series opens with “American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon” by Steven Rinella — part hunting narrative, part cultural history — examining the bison’s profound influence on the American landscape and national identity. A winner of the Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Award, the book blends personal storytelling with deep historical insight.
As a special highlight, Rinella will speak at Cody Culture Club on Feb. 12. Book club members are strongly encouraged to attend. Purchase tickets from Cody Culture Club. Join for engaging discussion, meaningful scholarship, and a deeper understanding of one of America’s most enduring icons.
