Park County Search and Rescue deployed two ground teams to Becker Lake Monday to assist with the extraction of a senior in distress while hiking in an isolated area of Shoshone National Forest near Becker Lake.
At 10:54 a.m. on Monday, the Park County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received an emergency notification from a GPS device indicating that the 68-year-old solo hiker was experiencing distress. PCSAR did not release the man's name or where he resides.
GPS coordinates placed the male subject near Becker Lake in the northern Shoshone National Forest, approximately 3.5 miles north of Island Lake Campground. During two-way communication with the Park County Sheriff's office, the subject reported an elevated heart rate and dizziness.
Guardian Flight successfully located the subject, landed near his location, and evacuated him to Cody Regional Health for further medical evaluation and treatment, according to a Wednesday press release by PCSAR.
The patient’s condition is unknown at this time. His symptoms were suspected to be related to severe altitude sickness.
