With early year lodging tax numbers ahead of last year, the Park County Travel Council is expecting a good tourism season.
Through April, collections for fiscal year 2025, which goes through June, are up nearly 8% or roughly $269,000 above the previous fiscal year with two months of collections remaining.
Collections have been ahead of FY 2024 numbers each month since last September, amounting to $3.645 million in collections after the 10% municipal deduction.
Just since January, more than $290,000 has been collected.
"It's a great start," PCTC Chair John Parsons said. "Hopefully that trend continues and we'll have a great summer."
Of the tax dollars that are collected, 90% goes to the travel council while 10% is returned to the county and municipal governments. In fiscal year 2024, the council spent nearly $1.98 million in unified marketing, $589,168 on destination development, $408,729 on administration and granted $395,677 to organizations ranging from the Powell, Cody, Meeteetse and East Yellowstone chambers to local events.
