A Lovell-based construction firm has been awarded $5.83 million to rehabilitate a section of highway between Yellowstone National Park and Wapiti.
Mountain Construction Co. was the low bidder on the job, which will involve paving, chip sealing, surfacing and stormwater drainage work on 9.9 miles of U.S. Highway 14/16/20 within the Shoshone National Forest.
The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the $5,828,066.58 contract to Mountain Construction at its Aug. 20 meeting. Most of the funding will come from the state’s coffers.
Mountain Construction’s bid came in $322,830, or 5.9%, higher than Wyoming Department of Transportation engineers had estimated. However, the local firm’s offer was also $171,781 — or nearly 3% — below a competing bid from Century Companies, Inc., of Lewistown, Montana.
Mountain Construction is due to complete the work by late October 2026.
