Basin attorney Jennifer Kirk was recently chosen by her peers to serve as the president-elect of the Wyoming Bar Association and will lead the organization a year from now.
Kirk had previously served five years as the bar’s commission for the Fifth Judicial District — that is, the Big Horn Basin — and served as its vice president over the past year.
Kirk is a native of Basin and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Wyoming in 2006. After working in the private sector for a few years, Kirk returned to UW in 2011 to attend its College of Law. She obtained her law degree in 2014 and was admitted into the Wyoming State Bar that same year.
Kirk has devoted the majority of her career to the public service sector, including service to Legal Aid of Wyoming and the Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault.
She returned to Basin in 2019, where she served as a deputy county and prosecuting attorney for Big Horn County. Last spring, Kirk transitioned into private practice, opening her own firm and working as a contract public defender; that includes public defense work in Park County.
As the president-elect, Kirk is set to take on the bar’s presidency from September 2027 to September 2028. She’ll succeed Alison Gee of Gillette, who now serves as president.
