The third year of the annual event to honor the town’s namesake is back in a new location and a new lineup of events.
The John Wesley Powell Days Festival is Saturday afternoon at the American Dream Drive-In Theatre with festivities starting at 4:30 p.m. and include carnival games, a bike parade, food, drinks — including a beer garden — and a filming of the movie “Rad” at 9 p.m. to cap off the night.
The event is free aside from food, drinks and some activities.
Powell Economic Partnership Executive Director and organizer Rebekah Burns said the changes were done to make it a bigger community event. PEP Americorps volunteer Kiran Darai has helped spearhead that effort.
There will even be a bike obstacle course, as the event sticks to its cycling roots. People are also asked to take photos and share their fun day on social media. You can post photos of you and the family enjoying the carnival on Facebook or Instagram and remember to tag the event by using #JWPDays.
The bike parade is open to all to ride decorated bikes around the parade route.
An overview of the day’s events, subject to change:
4:30-6 p.m. Decorate bikes, pick costumes, carnival games, art
6-7 p.m. John Wesley Powell Community Bike Parade
4:30-7 p.m. The Pig and the Hog food truck, concessions snacks
8 p.m. Award ceremony
9 p.m. Movie showing of the cult classic “Rad”
