Jackalope Jump set for March 21

Benefit for Special Olympics Wyoming

One of the “coolest” local fundraisers around — the Jackalope Jump — is set to make a splash in Powell next week.

The benefit for Special Olympics Wyoming is slated for 1 p.m. on Friday, March 21 at Powell Middle School.

The concept of the Jackalope Jump is simple: Participants take an invigorating plunge into a pool of freezing water to raise funds and support for the nonprofit organization and athletes.

The jumps are held around the state, with a Cody event set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Cody City Park.

Special Olympics Wyoming provides year-round sports training, athletic competition and related programs to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, aiming to offer them opportunities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.

Registration for Powell’s jump is available online at tinyurl.com/mh7afaaa. As of Tuesday, $945 had been raised toward a $10,000 goal.

Participants who raise at least $100 for Special Olympics Wyoming qualify for a camouflage Jackalope Jump T-shirt, while $1,500 worth of donations nets a variety of prizes, including a $100 Visa gift card; first responders and Cool School Challengers, meanwhile, can get a camo bag for hitting the $50 mark.

“If you cannot take the Jump, you can still come out, donate, volunteer your time, and show your support!” the release said.
