How has FFA impacted my life?

FFA first started 1925, since then students across the country have joined the organization and participated in its activities. Below are six Powell alumni who share how FFA has positively impacted their lives.

McKennah Buck

I can confidently say I would not be who I am today without FFA! My love and appreciation for service, education and hard work were fostered during those four years in the ag classroom. Figuring out the type of person you want to be, and what you want to do with your life can be daunting; especially moving into adulthood. I am grateful I had such a strong foundation laid by the high expectations of my adviser, teammates and family.

Whether you are at the center of the agriculture industry or supporting from the sidelines, exposure to such a dedicated industry teaches you to love the challenge of finding opportunity.

I was involved in FFA during my time at Powell High School. Among many things, FFA taught me about leadership, teamwork, responsibility and community service. FFA instilled in me the value of setting a goal and working toward that goal. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the strong foundation of FFA. I attribute the success I have had to the confidence and skills I gained during my time in FFA. I currently work at Reproduction Specialty Group and live in Lebanon, Indiana.

Being a part of the Powell-Shoshone FFA Chapter throughout my high school career was one of the best experiences of my life! I had the honor of serving as chapter secretary, vice president and president as well as competing in parliamentary procedure and livestock judging, allowing me many invaluable opportunities to grow as a leader and individual. FFA is centered around community involvement, the importance of agriculture and the uniqueness of individuals who make up such a large and vibrant organization. Though I graduated from PHS in 2022, my experience in this chapter, the countless connections and friendships formed and our agriculturally centered community continue to inspire my life and grow my appreciation for the FFA. I feel better prepared to chase my dreams, contribute to my community and make a positive impact on those around me because of my time spent in the Powell-Shoshone FFA Chapter.

Looking back, I can confidently say that FFA was the best thing that ever happened to me. The experiences, lessons and opportunities I gained through this organization have shaped me into the person I am today, and I continue to use what I learned in my daily life.

Throughout my time in FFA, I had the privilege of serving in several officer positions, including chapter president during my senior year. Leadership roles like this pushed me to grow, step outside my comfort zone and develop skills in public speaking, teamwork and problem-solving — skills that I rely on every single day.

My dedication to FFA didn’t stop after high school. I worked hard and was honored to receive my American FFA Degree, the highest achievement an FFA member can earn. This milestone was not just an award, but a testament to the countless hours of work, learning, and commitment I put into my projects and leadership.

FFA taught me responsibility, resilience and the value of hard work. It instilled in me a passion for agriculture, leadership and lifelong learning. No matter where life takes me, I know that the foundation FFA gave me will always be a part of who I am.

FFA has had a significant impact on my life. Raising, caring for, and showing animals at the Park County Fair taught me the importance of responsibility, dedication and attention to detail. Participating in ag mechanics allowed me to develop valuable hands-on skills and problem-solving abilities preparing me for my current career as a Caterpillar diesel technician. Through these experiences, I've learned a strong work ethic and how to work effectively in teams. I feel that being a part of FFA has also given me a head start in life, equipping me with knowledge and experiences that set me apart from others in my generation.

FFA has played a vital role in shaping the person I am today. FFA is so much more than what some people may think. FFA gave the opportunity for not only professional development, but personal development as well. Throughout my time in FFA I developed skills that I carry with me to this day. FFA pushed me to be the best version of me that I could be and pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I would not trade my experiences for anything. The leadership skills, responsibility, and public speaking skills that I was taught in my time in FFA are skills that I use every day. FFA is more than just an organization. It is a community that shapes and supports young people nationwide.
