The Homesteader Days Festival is back for its 15th year this Saturday and museum director Brandi Wright is hoping to see at least as many people as the 4,500 who attended last year despite some rainy weather.
After all, what this event celebrates is central to the Powell community.
“It’s about celebrating harvest and celebrating our homesteader roots,” Wright said. “This is one of those events that I could not pull off if I didn’t have community support.
“It all falls together so well.”
The festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends around 3 p.m., and is a free, family oriented event. There will be live music by the local band Rewinders, historic farm equipment and tractors, root beer floats — Wright said this year they’ll be serving them until they’re gone — chances to win a pie in a raffle, a silent auction in the back courtyard, food trucks, artisan vendors and information booths, and kids’ games and activities. University of Wyoming Extension will also have a presence.
Wright said she made a point to provide a variety of food trucks this year and avoid too much overlap on cuisines.
“There will be some new faces,” she said.
At 1:30 p.m. the Ruby Hopkin Commemorative Pie Auction will begin. Delicious home-baked pies will be offered to the highest bidder. Once again there will also be a handful of pies available to win via raffle.
Attendees can also enjoy the car show sponsored by the Vehicle Visions Car Show; contact the Eagles for additional information or email vehiclevisionscarshow@gmail.com.
Saturday’s event follows the traditional Farm to Table dinner fundraiser which sold 110 tickets this year. Wright said while that’s a slight drop from the previous year, with the cost of local foods the ticket price had to be raised and, she said, the people who have come year after year are still attending and helping to raise funds for the museum.
