The Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation will conduct a series of Japanese cultural events as part of its winter program series starting Jan. 25 and led by Haruka Takaku, the center’s Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator.
The program will be a Japanese New Year and mochi tasting presentation that will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the Mineta-Simpson Institute conference center. New Year is the most important holiday in Japan, and mochi, soft rice cakes, are one of the most important parts.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, Takaku will lead a tasting of sake, or rice, wine, and discuss the history and cultural meaning of sake in Japan and share stories of how people made sake at Heart Mountain.
The two other presentations will feature churashi sushi bowl making on Saturday, March 29, and ikebana flower arranging on Saturday, April 26.
There is a fee for each session. The costs range from $10 to $15 for members of the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation and between $15 and $20 for nonmembers. Registration details are available at heartmountain.org.
Members should use code WINTER2025 to get a discount at check out; note that membership cards need to be shown upon arrival at the event.
