The Heart Mountain Interpretive Center’s third annual Children’s Day Festival will honor the lives of children incarcerated at the camp. Enjoy live Japanese music, learn about Japanese culture, explore the new Mineta-Simpson Institute, and connect with your community.
The event is Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1539 Road 19 in Powell.
Special presentations include craft tables from 10 a.m. to noon; a koto (Japanese floor harp) and shakuhachi (bamboo flute) concert from 1 to 2 p.m., with options to have hands on experience with the koto after the concert; a samurai armor exhibit; Hashimoto-san cartoons playing all day in the Sam Mihara Theater; Higo Chonkake Koma (spinning tops) performance.
The event is free and open to the general public. There will be local food trucks in the parking lot.
