Groups host community Fly Fishing Fair

Fishing season has arrived and if you are interested in learning the basics of fly fishing, East Yellowstone Trout Unlimited, Wyoming Outdoorsmen and North Fork Anglers are hosting a Fly Fishing Fair. The event will consist of a series of stations where you can learn how to tie a fly, master basic knots, string up a rod, read the water, identify aquatic insects, and learn how to cast a fly rod.

The event is set up as a “buffet” style where you can go to one or two stations or visit all of them at your leisure. In addition, there will be information about the annual fall fish rescue program and conservation projects across the basin.

Participants can also sign up for the WY HUNT FISH-First Fish on a Fly mentoring program, which teaches youth and adults the basic skills and techniques fly fishing for western trout. The fair will be held at the Wyoming Game and Fish conference room in Cody on Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All materials, rods, and reels will be provided. Attendees can bring their own rod if they would like help setting it up or learning to cast. There is no charge for the event, and attendees will be eligible for a door prize" an Orvis Fly Fishing Starter kit.

In honor of Mother’s Day, all women who attend will receive a free membership to East Yellowstone Trout Unlimited.

For additional information, contact chapter president Larry Timchak at 406-250-7473.
