George Lynn Hildebrand, fondly known as Lynn, passed away on Oct. 24, 2026, at 85 years old. Born on July 28, 1941, Lynn lived a life rooted in family, hard work and a deep love for farming, ranching and Black Angus cattle.
Lynn and his beloved wife, Janice Meininger Hildebrand, shared 67 years together, including just shy of 64 years of marriage. Their life together was built on love, commitment and the family they raised and cherished.
After graduating with honors from Colorado State University, where he was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, he and his wife returned to the family farm/ranch in Henry, Nebraska. Along with his parents they established Hildebrand Angus and held yearly production bull sales, selling 2-year-old bulls. Hildebrand Angus also showed pens/carloads of Angus bulls “In the Yards” for more than 15 years at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado, with numerous champions.
In 1979, Lynn, Jan and their children moved north of Torrington, Wyoming, where they established Prairie Angus and continued raising and selling yearling bulls. Their dedication to the Angus business reflected in Lynn’s passion for “a good, honest black cow or bull."
In 1988, the family moved to what Lynn lovingly called “God's Country,” around Red Lodge, Montana. They eventually settled in Bridger, Montana where Lynn continued the life he loved with the Beartooth Mountains as the backdrop
he so loved.
Lynn was a lifelong member of the American Angus Association, a testament to the breed he loved. Farming/ranching was more than a career to him … it was a way of life, family tradition and his ultimate passion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children, Dicksie Hildebrand, Howdy Hildebrand (Tish); his grandchildren, ShayLe Stewart (Jimmy), Garrett Hildebrand (Stephanie) and Danny Hildebrand (Meag); his great-grandchildren, Stetson and Coy Stewart; his sister Kay Lind (Jerry), his brother, Roger Hildebrand; his sister in law Donna Hatten (Jerry) and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. As per Lynn’s request, graveside services will be conducted when his beautiful bride Janice joins him.
