George F. Gehrman, 85, passed away at Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody on Dec. 28, 2023. He was the son of Ralph and Mary Alice Gehrman and was born on July 7, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Throughout his younger years, he attended elementary school at St. Bernards and graduated from Benson High School (home of the Benson Bunnies) in Omaha. While in high school, he was active in ROTC and was a member of the rifle team.

Upon entering college, George decided to major in forestry, but changed his mind and went into engineering, but didn’t really like that so he entered the business field and ended up graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in business and marketing. He found his ideal job by working as an administrative officer for the U.S. Forest Service on six different forests, making lifelong friends with each transfer.

Patricia Carlson married George in June of 1959 and they began their life adventure in the many different communities and national forests they were transferred to. They were parents to three children; Korlynn, Sara and Bill.

George served his country beginning with ROTC at CSU and Aberdeen, Maryland, then eight years in the Army Reserve retiring as a captain.

He was a forever fan of Nebraska football; attending one game a year becoming a family tradition. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, running and playing golf.

George retired in 1994 and started a new career as an African Booking Agent for Trophy Connection, ultimately starting his own company, Tracking Africa. His love of hunting and Africa came from his youth, as he loved to read and it was usually about hunting. He made 14 trips to Africa and has many trophies to verify those trips. At Halloween, many of the children loved to come to their house and were interested in seeing all the animal heads as much as getting candy. As the years went by, they noticed more and more fathers were escorting the children to their house.

George is survived by his wife, Pat; and his children; Bill (Jennifer) Gehrman of Colorado, Korlynn (Dan) Anderson of Powell, and Sara (Jim) Holden of Oklahoma. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His sister Mary Clare (Don) Gray of Texas and Pat’s sister, Louise Hoke of Colorado also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Alice Gehrman and brother-in-law Darold Hoke.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell. Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
