Youth ages 5-18 are invited to attend a clinic sponsored by the Shoshone Back Country Horsemen. The free clinic will be held Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boot and Bottle Club, 69 Southfork Rd, in Cody.

The clinic, Developing Communication and Trail Skills, will involve a series of rotations. In the first station, youth will introduce their horses to a variety of obstacles. Back Country Horsemen volunteers will help the horses and riders learn to successfully and safely navigate obstacles similar to those found on the trail.

In the second station, participants will learn new skills and practice horsemanship through a variety of games and challenges.

In the third interactive station, SBCH volunteers will teach the principle of Leave No Trace/Light on the Land ethics and the basics of trail courtesy.

The fourth station will cover packing and a bit of basic first aid. The goal is to provide the kids with a mental checklist to refer to in case of an emergency.

After all the participants have rotated through the stations, lunch will be served.

To volunteer call Cathy: (307) 645-3255 or text (307) 202-0335. The organization needs people who would be willing to help on the trail course, open and close gates, set up and help clean up after the pizza lunch, bake cookies, or be patient with a “wound,” so they can be treated at the first aid station.
