Authorities are asking the public to help them find a former Powell resident who is “evading a felony warrant” in Big Horn County.
Anthony P.L. Pease, 39, was last seen on Nov. 1 in Byron, when he “fled on foot,” the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday Facebook post.
The sheriff’s office said it couldn’t release details about the underlying charges due to “confidentiality requirements” and the sealing of the case. The post also described the agency’s investigation as active and ongoing.
“If you see [Pease], or know his location, please do not make contact with him,” the sheriff’s office wrote, asking that citizens instead call their office at 307-568-2324 or 911.
Though the post said nothing about the nature of the charges, the unusual protections indicate Pease may be accused of a sexual crime. Unlike other charges, state law generally prohibits government officials from releasing the names of defendants facing sex crimes until the case reaches the district court level. The law does allow authorities to release a person’s name “to aid or facilitate an arrest.”
State records indicate that Pease had recently been living in the Cheyenne area, but he previously lived in Park County.
He is currently out on parole for strangling a former girlfriend in rural Cody in 2019.
According to court records, the woman told authorities that Pease punched her in the face and stomach, pulled her by the hair and choked her with a seat belt to the point that she passed out.
When she tried calling 911, Pease took the woman’s phone, charging documents say, but she escaped from his car with the help of her parents.
Court records indicate also that Pease had previously battered and falsely imprisoned a different girlfriend in 2016 in Powell.
The incident in rural Cody led to Pease receiving seven to 10 years of prison time on a felony count of strangulation of a household member and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery. That sentence was imposed and Pease placed into Wyoming Department of Corrections custody in early 2020. He was paroled in early May, according to a department spokesperson.
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office describes Pease as approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 180 pounds, with blonde/red hair and blue eyes. The authorities said he could be driving a 2012 white KIA Soul with 2 county plates, or a 2008 blue Jeep Patriot with 11 county plates.
“Any help from the public in executing this warrant and the ability to bring closure to this case would be appreciated,” the sheriff’s office said.
As of Wednesday, the post had been shared over 900 times, but Pease had yet to be located.
