First baby of 2026 takes her time

The first baby of 2026 at Powell Valley Hospital didn’t stick to the plan — she came in her own good time.

Everly Grace Eulberg was later than expected, bigger than expected, and came with a different name from what the parents had expected until about a week before the birth.

Mother Rebecca couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce her to the world after more than nine months, including a tough few days at the hospital before giving birth.

“There’s like, so much joy, especially just because I fought to have her a little bit here at the end,” she said. “Like, physically, it was a feat to make sure that she got here so, there’s joy and relief that we finally get to meet her. It feels like I’ve known her this whole time, and I’m finally sharing her with the world.”

Rebecca and Kyle Eulberg, of Powell, said it didn’t take too long before they wanted to have their first child, but early on Rebecca was sure she was having a boy and, Kyle said, that made him change his mind and agree it must be a boy. So Rebecca had her mom receive the email confirming the sex of the baby, and then a couple weeks later her mother held a reveal celebration to let them know — they were having a girl.

“It’s mother’s intuition, right? Like, I should know,” Rebecca said, laughing. “There’s no such thing, apparently.”

After that the choice of name was decided upon, although Rebecca was still fixated on Everly. Then, just a week before her birth, Kyle found a way to use the middle name he wanted and then switch to Everly for the first name — a name which he loves too.

“It was a good compromise,” he said.

With that settled, they were prepared for a late December baby. Everly wasn’t ready.

Finally on Saturday morning the couple went to the hospital, but the process was long and tough.

“It was not a standard procedure … it went unmedicated until it didn’t,” Rebecca said. “And then medicated. And then I pushed for a really long time.”

Finally, at 1:34 a.m. Monday morning, Everly was born. She had yet another surprise.

“She was 9 pounds 2 ounces, which was a pound heavier than any of us were expecting,” Rebecca said.
