Members of the Powell Volunteer Fire Department will again celebrate the Fourth of July at the fire hall.
The fireworks-heavy holiday often makes for a busy night for the department, so firefighters hang out at the hall on East South Street.
“They get together … so they’re ready to go,” explained City Administrator Zack Thorington, “because they will get called out numerous times.”
Fireworks are generally prohibited within city limits, but at its June 15 meeting, the Powell City Council unanimously voted to give the department permission to set off some personal pyrotechnics behind the hall.
Thorington said the permit — which the council has also approved in past years — will help the firefighters celebrate the Fourth with their families.
