Donations support Food Bank of Wyoming’s local produce purchases

Nearly 90,000 people in Wyoming are experiencing food insecurity. As rising food and fuel costs continue to strain household budgets, Food Bank of Wyoming remains committed to helping neighbors access nutritious food while continuing to support local farmers and producers.

On July 15, during WyoGives Day, 10% of all donations made to Food Bank of Wyoming will be put toward purchasing local agricultural products. According to a release, these funds will help strengthen local agriculture while increasing access to nutritious food for families facing hunger. The remaining donations will support the Food Bank’s ongoing operations and services, helping provide reliable food assistance to neighbors in need across the state.

One of those local growers is Lindsey Anderson of 1890 Farms in Fremont County. Through its partnership with Food Bank of Wyoming, the family-operated farm helps connect neighbors with fresh, Wyoming-grown food.

“By partnering with Food Bank of Wyoming, we have helped distribute Wyoming-grown sweet corn to 21 of Wyoming’s 23 counties, increasing access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown food for families and communities across the state,” said Anderson. “We believe strong communities start with strong local agriculture.”

1890 Farms specializes in growing quality sweet corn and expanding access to locally grown food. Through direct-to-consumer sales and partnerships with more than 17 Wyoming school districts, hunger-relief organizations, grocery stores, local markets, and restaurants, the farm helps increase access to Wyoming-grown food to communities across the state.

Providing nourishing, meaningful food is at the heart of Food Bank of Wyoming’s mission. Last year, one-third of the food distributed by the Food Bank was fresh produce.

“We remain committed to continuing to grow and strengthen our partnerships with Wyoming farmers and producers to ensure all of our neighbors have access to nutritious food whenever and wherever it is needed,” said Danica Sveda, executive director of Food Bank of Wyoming. “Every gift made on WyoGives Day comes at a crucial time. Like the families we serve, Food Bank of Wyoming is also experiencing significant increases in food, fuel, and freight costs, requiring an additional $18,000 each month to maintain our current level of service.”

Every $1 donated to Food Bank of Wyoming helps provide enough food for three meals. For more information and to give, visit wyogives.org/organizations/food-bank-of-wyoming.
