Crosstrek craze at PHS

Posted

Looking in the high school parking lot, there’s quite a variety of cars and trucks, but one common car stands out among the crowd: the Subaru Crosstrek.

The Subaru Crosstrek is best known for its combination of all-wheel drive and practicality, all fit in a compact SUV. Its design is what makes the Crosstrek most desirable for the high school students who drive them around.

For senior Ava Gilliatt, Subarus are a standard car for her family. With the cars being known for their reliability, they decided it was a good investment.

“... they are reliable cars and last forever,” Gilliatt said. “They have good gas mileage. My Subaru Crosstrek Sport has good clearance, so it works well driving off-road.”

As well as being reliable cars, Subarus include many other desirable features. For Gilliatt, some of those include being able to turn well in tight spaces, quick acceleration, and seat heaters that come in handy with the cold Wyoming weather.

For senior Emery Hernandez, purchasing her Crosstrek just made sense because of its likelihood that it would last her through college and its high performance in bad weather. It also made a great fit for her busy lifestyle.

“It’s the perfect size for what I need,” Hernandez said. “I have room for all my sports equipment, and if I need to fit a few friends in my car, but it’s not too big for what I need.”

For Gilliatt, though, the size of the car can be a problem, and she wouldn’t recommend it for tall people. The rest of the complaints about the Crosstrek are small, but noteworthy.

“I haven’t noticed many drawbacks, but my leather seats don’t weather very good and have cracked in the summer heat over time,” junior Autumn Kidd said. “The steering wheel has done the same thing and has begun to peel.”

Overall, the popularity of the Subaru Crosstrek is justified, especially for high school students. With their reputation of reliability, and compact size it’s easy to see why they’re a common sight in the parking lot.
