Last year proposed zoning maps, based on initial public input and prior city and county land use plans, caused a lot of concern.
Around Powell, one of the big questions was why so much land south of U.S. Highway 14A just outside city limits was proposed as industrial, when much was currently under cultivation.
Now new maps, based on the large amount of public input received last year in the wake of those initial maps, have been sent to the Park County Planning and Zoning board and the Technical Advisory Group for review.
This discussion represents another big step for phase two of the new county DSR — phase one was approved last fall after lengthy debate.
“That’s the next thing we’ll be working on,” board member Dossie Overfield said.
Zoning maps are a key result of the land use plan, which was approved in 2024. They are also, as County Planning Director Joy Hill has repeatedly said in past meetings, where the overarching ideas of the land use plan turn into actual effects for individual properties.
TAG and P&Z will be reviewing the documents and the groups will compare notes before bringing them to the commissioners for initial review.
The next round of public meetings were initially thought of for March-April, but Overfield said consultants from Logan Simpson have asked for more time to put together the documents, so the expectation is now for the next round of public meetings in May.
