The County Planning and Zoning department is advising the public that at least three customers have reported receiving fake invoices from planning.parkcountywy@usa.com, requesting large payments.
According to the release, the email content is very convincing and extremely detailed.
"We believe it is possible that some of the content is being garnered from the application packets we post on the web prior to our public hearings," Park County Planning Director Joy Hill said in the release. "It is possible that AI is being used to generate these materials. It has been brought to our attention that other departments may also be victims of similar fake billing attempts."
For the foreseeable future, to protect its customers, the department will not be posting project application packets on the web. Interested parties may request a copy of project materials directly from the office.
Anyone who has received one of these requests is asked to report directly to the department prior to making any payments.
