Editor's note: Tonight's (Tuesday's) session in Wapiti has been postponed due to heavy snow on the North Fork.
In early February, after a bigger-than expected crowd attended a public hearing on the first round of planning and development regulations and less people than expected attended the initial public input sessions on the second round of regs, county leaders determined more input was needed.
“We've decided to gather more information through area meetings at the end of February in preparation for compiling all of the info and providing that info to the planning areas to get their feedback at the end of March,” Commission Chair Dossie Overfield said at the first commission meeting of the month, adding later “We want your input.”
The second round of open houses regarding phase two of the land use plan, which deals with more specific details on land use in specific planning areas, begin in an area that has had its share of controversial land use discussions recently.
Tonight (Tuesday) from 6-8 p.m. in Wapiti, consultants from Logan Simpson, planning and zoning staff and likely a commissioner or two will be at the Wapiti School gym.
This is a planning area that recently fought, along with commissioners, in an ultimately failed attempt to keep a cell tower from being built on private property in the valley. People have also thrown eggs at vehicles and buildings at a new campground going up where an old campground once stood on the North Fork.
As in the first round of public input sessions, people will have a chance to detail on maps what land uses they approve of, or not, in certain areas within their planning areas, such as Powell local or, in this case, the North Fork.
Residents of any planning area can attend any public workshop they would like.
