The Cody Theatre Company is putting on the classic “The Wizard of Oz” live at the historic Cody Theatre in downtown Cody Oct. 30-Nov. 2. The event features 12 performers from the surrounding area, 13 dance students from local Rocky Mountain School of the Arts, as well as two professionals from Texas and Massachusetts.
Directed and choreographed by Elizabeth Fernandez and vocal director Drew Murray, 501c3 nonprofit performing arts organization Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre is producing this production by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
The stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale features the iconic musical score from the MGM film. It’s the timeless tale of Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, who is swept away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. Along with her dog Toto, she befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, all seeking help from the Wizard of Oz to return home and fulfill their desires. The group faces challenges from the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys, ultimately discovering the power of courage, kindness, and finding “home” within themselves.
