Local residents will get a chance to tour The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ new Cody temple this summer.
The church announced Monday that it will host an open house of the facility from Aug. 27 to Sept. 12 (excluding Sundays). The temple will then permanently close to the public and be formally dedicated on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The open house and dedication follow roughly five years of planning and construction — plus controversy and litigation. Although neighbors and others voiced objections to the temple’s design and location off Skyline Drive, Cody officials approved the project and both a district court judge and the Wyoming Supreme Court affirmed the decision.
The church first announced the plans for the Cody Wyoming Temple in October 2021 and crews broke ground in October 2024. It will be the church’s third temple in the state, following a Star Valley site dedicated in 2016 and another in Casper in 2024.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reports having nearly 67,000 members across Wyoming.
