The Cody Library will host author Sue Consolo-Murphy for a talk on her book “The Bears of Grand Teton: A Natural and Cultural History” at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Published by Bison Books, “The Bears of Grand Teton” is the first comprehensive history of black and grizzly bears and their interactions with humans in Grand Teton National Park and its surrounding areas. Drawing on her decades of experience as a wildlife manager with the National Park Service, Consolo-Murphy explores the natural, cultural and administrative histories of bears in the region, including notable bears like Grizzly 399 and her famous offspring.
In addition to providing insight into the challenges of wildlife conservation, “The Bears of Grand Teton” addresses the role of social media and the public’s evolving relationship with these iconic animals. Consolo-Murphy, who retired from Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway as chief of science and resource management in 2019, is a recipient of the National Park Service Director’s Award for Excellence in Natural Resource Management and the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee’s award for significant contributions to grizzly bear recovery.
This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
