A Cody couple was found dead on Thursday in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide. The deceased have been identified as 63-year-old Gary Finnicum and his wife, 52-year-old Danielle Finnicum.
Following a Monday autopsy, Park County Coroner Cody Gortmaker said the deaths were a “suspected murder-suicide,” with Cody police stating that the couple died from gunshots.
Gortmaker declined to say who is suspected to have been murdered and who is suspected to have died by suicide; he deferred to Cody police, who declined to comment further on Monday afternoon.
In a Friday statement, police described the case as an active investigation, but said that “based on the evidence gathered thus far, investigators do not believe there is any outstanding threat to the community, nor are they seeking any suspect in connection with this incident at this time.”
Officers had responded to the couple’s residence in the Valley View Subdivision on the southwestern edge of the city around midday Thursday, after a family friend requested a welfare check; the friend reported they hadn’t heard from the Finnicums in multiple days, which was unusual.
“The Cody Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the Finnicum family and their loved ones during this difficult time,” police said in Friday’s statement.
