With final details being cinched up, organizers of the 28th annual Clark Rodeo, set for Saturday, June 21, are inviting all amateur riders, young and older, to saddle up and preregister for the various events.
Entrants also can sign up on the morning of the event at the Clark Pioneer Recreation Center, but volunteer organizers would like to get a head count sooner than later. Custom belt buckles and ribbons will be awarded to winners in several contests.
Planned events for those up to 7 years old are stick horse and boot racing and mutton busting. Also on the schedule for ages 12 and older: sack races with parents and children, barrel races, pole bending, tack up event, flag racing and the often amusing egg-in-spoon challenge.
“The events are all of the low-key variety,” noted Sharon Weldon, co-organizer with Robert Weldon. “We’re aiming for everyone to have family fun and enjoy the rodeo, the parade prior to it, and the silent auction inthe rec center during the day. We’re also looking forward to the food site with its well-known barbecued chicken, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers.”
All proceeds from the day will be used, said the co-organizers, to benefit the Clark Pioneer Rec Center and its calendar of community events, various gatherings and other attractions for residents and friends. With that in mind, donations for the auction, whether certificates or merchandise, are sought under IRS code 501c3.
