The Powell City Council technically approved a new subdivision last week, but it’s not a new development.
The so-called Ouellette Subdivision is really just a lot split, City Administrator Zack Thorington told the council at its Oct. 7 meeting. The 0.23-acre parcel contains two homes and the owner wants to sell them separately, Thorington said.
Located just north of the Travelodge by Wyndham, the North Hamilton Street property lies within the city’s business general zoning area, where residences are generally prohibited. However, these homes and several others in the area were built before the zoning was put in place and are grandfathered in, Thorington said.
Records maintained by the Park County Assessor’s Office suggest the two homes — which are roughly 600 and 1,000 square feet — date to 1933 and 1940, respectively. The current owner, Trey Ouellette, acquired the property in 2019.
