A 41-year-old Billings woman has been jailed in Big Horn County after she allegedly raced through the area at high speeds while under the influence of meth and while wearing “minimal clothing.”
Christina Smith faces five misdemeanor counts and is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond in connection with last week’s incident.
Reporting by the Lovell Chronicle indicates that Smith led officers on a pursuit that began in Montana and passed through Lovell before ending west of Greybull.
Charging documents say at least five people called authorities to report Smith’s driving around midday on June 8. They relayed that her silver Buick had “heavy front-end damage” and was zipping through towns at “high rates of speed,” wrote Trooper Colin May of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
May said in an affidavit that he saw the Buick traveling at about 100 mph on U.S. Highway 310, and that a Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office deputy reportedly saw her pass a semi-truck in a no-passing zone.
Though the pursuing officers tried to get Smith to stop, she allegedly refused to pull over. Even after they popped her rear driver’s side tire with a spike strip, Smith continued driving at about 90 mph, the trooper’s affidavit says.
Smith eventually lost her other rear tire, coming to a stop after swerving to avoid more spike strips near the intersection of U.S. 310 and U.S. 14/16/20.
When Smith came out of the vehicle “she had minimal clothing and no underwear,” the trooper wrote, adding that she later made a crude sexual comment to him.
Smith claimed to be a 60-year-old woman named “Alzay Filly,” the affidavit says, but authorities learned her true identity from her registration and driver’s license.
Charging documents say Smith admitted to having meth in her system. Inside her vehicle, authorities reportedly found a small baggie of meth and a pipe she’d held out the window during the pursuit. The patrol obtained a sample of her blood for chemical testing.
While those results are pending, Smith has been charged with counts of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude police, possession of a controlled substance and interference with a peace officer. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is now awaiting a July 1 scheduling conference.
