Powell attorney Janci Baxter is the 2023 recipient of the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association (WTLA) Member of the Year award. She was honored during the WTLA convention held in Cheyenne, June 22-23.
The award recognizes a WTLA member who in the preceding year, has exemplified and put into practice the philosophy of the organization.
Baxter was recognized because of her generous sharing of expertise with colleagues through speaking for WTLA programs and writing for the association’s publications. She played a vital role in establishing a new 501 (c) 3 organization, Kids Chance of Wyoming, organized to provide scholarships to children of workers seriously injured or killed on the job in Wyoming.
Baxter serves on the board of directors for WTLA and Kids Chance of Wyoming. She is the treasurer of Lawyers Active in Wyoming political action committee. Baxter’s contributions and service contribute to the promotion of the administration of justice for the public good, advancement of the cause of workers who are injured or killed and education of attorneys.
The philosophy, purposes and objectives of the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association include:
1. Upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States and the Wyoming State Constitution.
2. Promoting the administration of justice for the public good.
3. Preserving the adversary system and the right to trial by jury.
4. Advancing the cause of people who are injured in person or property.
5. Educating attorneys and the general public on the importance and use of the adversary and jury trial system.
6. Developing and encouraging high standards of professional conduct among all attorneys.
