CHEYENNE –– Middle school students across Wyoming are encouraged to take part in the 2026 National Civics Bee, a nonpartisan competition designed to inspire civic engagement, strengthen civic knowledge, and give young people a platform to share ideas for improving their communities. The 2026 deadline to apply is Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time.
The National Civics Bee invites students in grades 6–8 to respond to an essay prompt proposing a solution to a real-world community issue, incorporating civic virtues and principles. This free competition helps students expand their understanding of American democracy, develop thoughtful solutions, and build confidence in public communication.
Regional events will be hosted by chambers throughout Wyoming, including by the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Casper Area Chamber of Commerce, Thermopolis Hot-Springs Chamber of Commerce, and Glenrock Chamber of Commerce, giving students local opportunities to compete and showcase their ideas.
How to enter: Eligible students in grades 6–8 from public, private, charter and homeschool environments may submit their online essay application at NationalCivicsBee.org.
