Despite rain showers in the early evening Saturday, the 108th consecutive all-class reunion of the Powell High School Alumni Association stayed dry indoors at the Park County Fairgrounds.
“You gotta love the Wyoming weather,” said Gerry Wilkins of Billings, principal organizer of the 2023 events. “Certainly glad we moved indoors Saturday night — cool, dry, no wind, no mosquitoes, not too loud so lots of conversation going.”
The Panther Open alumni golf tournament fit in under pleasant conditions Saturday morning and early afternoon before the rain and was a sell-out.
“We’ll get more golf carts next year,” Wilkins said.
Overall, Wilkins was pleased with the three-day event which was enjoyed by many.
“All events were well attended,” he said. “Friday night everyone enjoyed the evening at Plaza Diane with food, beverages, great music and lots of conversation. We finished up Sunday at the Gestalt Studios with singing by Friends Forever, Michael and Donna Coy, including ballads of Earl Durand and the Rocky Mountain Cowboy Roy Barnes.”
The 109th consecutive reunion is scheduled for the weekend of June 28-29, 2024. Wilkins said the alumni committee will meet Thursday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at the Elks Club to plan for 2024 and “to ask for help to keep the successful string of consecutive reunions going.”
