Alice passed away on Sunday, March 5 in Billings, Montana.

Alice was one of nine children born to John and Catherine VandenHeuvel of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Alice trained to be an RN working for 30 years as an OB nurse. After retiring from nursing, Alice went back to school to obtain her accounting degree where she used those skills for another 15 years.

She married Harry James Bird Jr. on Sept. 15, 1959 in Compton, California. She started  raising her family in Riverside, then moved to Walnut, California. Together they had three children, Gary Allen, Randolph James and Karalee Ann.

As a family, vacations were spent all over the western states. Camping, fishing and visits to the beach were a highlight of these times.

Alice spent her retirement years in Powell, Wyoming surrounded by many dear friends.  She loved to fish! She also enjoyed reading, baking, needlework and sewing. Her craft room proudly displayed her many ribbons of excellence.

She is survived by her children Gary (Janalee) of Logan, Utah; Randy (Michelle) of Ogden, Utah and Karalee of Powell, Wyoming.

Alice was also a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with one more arriving this June.

Also surviving is her bother Elmer George VandenHeuvel and her sisters Dorthy Jean Huffman, Loretta Hoops and Donna Burns.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents John and Catherine and her sister Grace Pennacchio (Roy), brothers John Henry, Henry and Edward.

Alice was a wonderful influence to everyone around her. She was kind, generous, and always had a smile on her face and a go-getter attitude! She will be greatly missed by all who knew  her.

A celebration of her life will be held at the West Weber Cemetery in Utah on May 5, 2023.
