A busy Tuesday night had Powell Panther athletics competing around Park County, with the basketball teams on the road at Cody while the swim and dive team hosted senior night at the Powell Aquatic Center.

The Powell Panther boys continued an undefeated start, moving to 12-0 on the year after earning a 50-28 win over their rivals.

Powell overcame a stout Bronc defense to pull away in the second half after leading 23-13 at the break.

The Panther girls ended up on the wrong end of a 56-40 scoreline, falling to the Fillies for the second time this season.

Cody’s strong start allowed for the hosts to keep Powell at arms’ length for most of the night, but the Panthers were able to cut into the lead multiple times despite an abundance of turnovers.

That loss snapped a seven game win streak by the Panther girls.

At the aquatic center the Panthers hosted a triangular between them, Worland and Cody.

Powell defeated Worland 163-77 but lost to Cody 144-122.

Gabe Rose won the 100 fly (59.16) and the 200 IM (2:15.74), while Will Fuller won the 50 free (24.52).

The Panther basketball teams will head to Lovell Thursday (tonight) for a matchup against the Bulldogs. The JV teams will start at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity girls at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7 p.m.

The Panther swim team will head to Buffalo on Friday, taking part in the final regular season meet before conference in Gillette next weekend on Friday and Saturday.

Catch full recaps of all these games and meets in the Jan. 30 edition of the Powell Tribune.
