Girls beat Cody, boys fall short

For the second time in school history the Powell Panther girls’ soccer team defeated the Cody Fillies, winning 6-3 on Tuesday night in Cody, while the boys dropped a physical 4-0 contest against the Broncs.

The Powell girls fell behind early and trailed 3-2 at halftime, but four second half goals, two each from Ivy Agee and Ava Gilliatt, proved to be the difference.

Agee finished with a hat trick while Emery Hernandez also had a first half goal for the Panthers.

The victory was the third in a row for the Panther girls, with the team vying for a top three spot having split with Cody and Lander in the regular season.

Powell could lock up a spot at the state tournament in Green River this weekend despite being idle if Lyman and Mountain View lose one conference match each.

The Powell boys lost their rematch with Cody after two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half gave the Broncs momentum heading into the break.

A physical second half filled with several injuries saw the Panthers fall behind 4-0 late in the contest, ending the regular season with a split against their rivals.

Powell is currently clinging to the fourth spot in the 3A West for the final spot at state, just ahead of Mountain View which has one conference contest this weekend while the Panthers are idle.

Both Panther teams will host Mountain View and Lyman next weekend.
