With snow, rock slides and cold disrupting sporting events around Wyoming, that Powell High School was able to host a track meet last week was something of an accomplishment in itself.

Pass, set and spike for a wish

Powell High School was bustling with various fundraisers last week, including a volleyball tournament, dinner, silent auction, kiss-a-pig and minute-to-win-it. All of the events were planned by the members of student council for the purpose of raising money for Make-A-Wish Wyoming.

When he was 7 years old, Bob Knight was walking out the door for his very first Little League game when his mother warned him to keep things in perspective.

Northwest College honored student athletes on the soccer, basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams for accomplishments in both academics and athletics at Tuesday night’s Trapper Athletic Awards Ceremony.

Trapper women jump up a spot

After winning two rodeos last week, the Northwest College men’s rodeo team padded its lead as the No. 1 team in the Big Sky Region. The Trappers boosted their advantage from 91.5 points to 531.5 by taking rodeos at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana, and at Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana.

The Lady Panther soccer team went head-to-head with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the state last week — Cody and Worland respectively. Losing both conference games has not dampened the spirit of the team or coaches toward the season end goal of making the state competition.

More than a parent support group

When local prep athletes put on a spiffy new uniform or enjoy a nice meal at a state tournament, they may have the Powell Athletic Roundtable to thank.

PHS track team picks up wins at Lovell invite

Powell High School’s track and field team found plenty of success at the Lovell invitational on Saturday, finishing with three new state qualifiers, 14 first-place finishers and personal bests in 22 of the team’s 34 events.

The Panther soccer team took losses in two tough games last week, falling against No. 4 ranked Cody on Thursday and to No. 5 ranked Worland on Saturday. But despite the losses, Powell High School boys head soccer coach Jeff Dent sees his team headed in the right direction.

Erickson shooting for the Olympics

Morgan Erickson of Powell recently accomplished the highest shooting skill level in NRA shooting by qualifying for the Distinguished Expert award. It was not only a huge accomplishment in itself, but also another step toward the 18-year-old’s ultimate goal of making it to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
