The 150th summer season of the world’s first national park kicks off this week. Xanterra Travel Collection, the largest park concessions management company in the United States, will host a public event at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park on May 6.
The park is scheduled to open the East Entrance gates for the season on that date (weather permitting).
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., with remarks from representatives of the National Park Service and Xanterra.
After the remarks, officials will open the new Native American Art Exhibit and Marketplace, offer free historic Yellow Bus Tours in the Old Faithful area and free walking tours of the Old Faithful Inn.
Xanterra’s theme for the anniversary is 150 Years of Inspiration.
“Within that theme, and consistent with the vision of the National Park Service, we are focused on a message of responsible visitation, stewardship and advocacy, inclusion and tribal engagement,” the company stated in a recent press release.
