Brandy Wetherbee pleaded not guilty to one felony charge of intentional abuse of a vulnerable adult and two misdemeanor charges of interfering with a peace officer in Park County Fifth District Court on Friday.
Wetherbee and her attorney Brigita Krisjansons appeared virtually, while Deputy Park County Attorney Jack Hatfield represented the state. District Court Judge William Simpson presided over the hearing.
Wetherbee was previously employed by Park County School District 1 as a teaching assistant.
In January the school district received an anonymous tip from one of Wetherbee’s coworkers who alleged that Wetherbee repeatedly hit a student with an ice scraper while transporting the student from Cody to Powell the previous October that led to a months-long sheriff’s office investigation. Her termination from the district was approved at the April 26 school board meeting.
If convicted, intentional abuse of a vulnerable adult is a felony offense that could carry up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. The jury trial is scheduled to be held Dec. 13, at 9 a.m.
