Early and absentee voting for Wyoming’s general election gets underway this week.

Starting Friday, any Park County resident can vote at the courthouse in Cody. Early voting will remain available in the elections office from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. every weekday through Monday, Nov. 7. Under Wyoming’s new voter ID law, voters need to show their driver’s license or other acceptable identification before voting in-person.

Absentee voting also begins this week. On Friday, the Park County Elections Office will send out more than 2,300 absentee ballots to local voters who’ve requested them. A voter must have made the
request this year, as there is no permanent list of people who want absentee ballots.

Through Nov. 7, voters can request an absentee ballot by stopping by the courthouse or, if their registration is up to date, by calling the elections office at 307-527-8620 or emailing voterinfo@parkcounty.us. Absentee ballots can be mailed to the voter or picked up at the courthouse; they must be returned to the elections office by mail or in person before the polls close.

On Election Day itself — Tuesday, Nov. 8 — local residents can vote at their polling place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Park County will serve voters at the same polling locations used for the primary election: in Cody, Powell, the South Fork, Wapiti, Clark, Heart Mountain, Garland and Meeteetse.

In the recent primary election, roughly 62% of voters (7,678 people) cast their ballots on Election Day, 19%, or 2,356 voters, cast their ballots early at the courthouse and another 19% (2,332) voted absentee. That made for a record primary turnout of 12,366 voters. Park County Clerk Colleen Renner is hoping for another strong turnout in the general election and encourages local residents to exercise their right to vote.
