Voter turnout slightly better than primary

Posted

Park County saw a record amount of voters for a midterm general election when polls closed Tuesday night, although the turnout was only slightly better than the record primary turnout in the summer.

In all, 12,971 people voted in the county, 605 more people than in the August primary. That is by far the smallest margin of difference between a primary and general in the same year since at least 2006.

Early voting and absentee ballots were both above the primary election but below the 2020 general election. Early votes were the second most at 2,630, just behind the record of 2,954 in the 2020 general, not surprising as that featured a presidential election as well as being during Covid.

Absentee votes at 2,734 were above not only the primary but both 2018 elections, but well below the 2020 primary and general.

On Tuesday 7,607 people voted, down 91 voters from the primary and the least amount of Election Day voters since the 2020 primary during the height of Covid concern. The number of in-person voters is smaller than the amount in any general election in the county since at least 2006, when 8,920 people voted day-of in a midterm election.
