Veterans of all eras, military, surviving spouses, family members and all other area residents are welcome to attend the Veterans “Welcome Home” Day celebrations this weekend in Powell and Cody.
The day of welcoming was codified in state law during the 61st legislative session for March 30 of each year, the date U.S. combat troops would have set foot on Wyoming soil after returning home from the Vietnam War in 1973. The ceremonies will feature remarks by Gov. Mark Gordon, Maj. Gen. Gregory Porter, the Adjutant General of Wyoming, and Veterans Commission Chairman Jake Jacobs. The remarks will be followed by receiving lines to thank Wyoming veterans from all eras.
The local event starts at 12:10 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on 143 South Clark St. There will also be an event with lunch included starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Cody Missionary Alliance Auditorium at 147 Cooper Lane in Cody.
For more information, call the Wyoming Veterans Commission at 307-777-8152 or Wyoming Veterans Commissioner Vincent Vanata at 307-587-2714.
