On Thursday, July 18, the Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC) will host a field day to share results from University of Wyoming crop research.
The annual event is free and open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. at 747 Road 9 in Powell. All ages are welcome.
After opening remarks, participants will have the opportunity to visit prepared exhibits or tour the PREC facilities. During the tour, UW faculty, staff and graduate students will present research conducted at the Powell Research and Extension Center at various field plots.
“There are three graduate student projects on pulse crops and presentations related to reduced irrigation that have potential positive impact for the Big Horn Basin and beyond,” says Jim Heitholt, director of the Powell Research and Extension Center. Other topics include malt barley variety trials; controlling fungal diseases in sugar beets; dry bean seed treatments; and several presentations about products which help plants grow or improve plant-soil interactions (biostimulants).
“Farmers and landowners interested in learning more about research projects that have potential to improve grower profitability and environmental sustainability should attend this field day,” said Heitholt. “But the general public is invited, especially residents new to the area that are unaware of the research opportunities and extension capabilities that exist here just north of Powell.”
