Northwest College hosted its end of year Trapper Awards ceremony in April, with athletes garnering awards throughout the evening to wrap up the 2023-24 school year.

Athletes were honored team by team, with six athletes taking home special honors at the end of the night.

That included sophomore Aziz Fayzullaev being named the Male Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, having won his second consecutive national title in wrestling.

He finished his two-year career with national titles at 174 and 184 pounds,  only losing one match as a Trapper after moving to Northwest from Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Female Athlete of the Year went to a Trapper volleyball player, with sophomore libero Ellie Thomas getting named to the honor.

She broke nearly every record available at Northwest for digs, setting the single season record for digs at 516 this year while also breaking past the career mark with 967 over her two-year career after attending Northwest from Thunder Basin in Gillette.

The Trapper Award is typically given to some of the hardest workers in the Northwest athletic programs, as the men’s award went to sophomore forward Ricardo Farias da Silva.

Farias da Silva, from Vitoria-Es, Brazil, led a strong men’s team this past season, finishing with 10 goals and four assists for the Trappers.

The women’s award went to freshman Tayva Phillips on the women’s basketball team, who was an energetic spark for the Trappers this past season.

She averaged 8.4 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game for the Trappers after arriving from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The final awards of the night were the Trapper Scholarship, as freshman Preston Condie was the men’s recipient.

Condie was a men’s basketball player that was a spark off the bench for the Trappers, averaging 5.2 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game in his first season from Price, Utah.

The women’s recipient was freshman Jai’La Porter, who continued to show improvement and was a spark off the bench for the women’s basketball team.

She averaged 2.1 points per game and 1.2 rebounds for the Trappers this past season in her first season from Colorado Springs.
