Trapper wrestler passes away in Utah

Northwest College student and wrestler Traycee Norman died Sunday in his hometown of Herriman, Utah.

Norman graduated from Herriman High School in 2020, and was wrestling at 285 pounds for the Trappers this season. The 19-year-old’s obituary references his love of wrestling, along with his big heart.

“Traycee [Norman] lived life to the fullest and embraced new adventures with a curious and fearless spirit,” the obituary says in part, adding that, “Traycee’s contagious smile and infectious laugh touched the lives of so many and will continue to live on in the hearts of every person lucky enough to truly know him.”

Trapper head wrestling coach Jim Zeigler said he’s been in contact with Norman’s family and also each of the athletes on the team, saying it’s been difficult and emotional for all of them.

“I mourn for the loss of our brother,” the coach wrote in a message to his athletes, “but my concern now is for all of you.”

Zeigler said he has spoken to his athletes two times each day to ensure they are doing OK, and will offer counseling when they return to campus in two weeks; NWC’s fall semester concluded on Friday.

The coach told his team there were no details surrounding the death at this time, and they should not speculate on what happened.

Multiple NWC teammates will be in attendance at Norman’s viewing, which will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. today (Thursday), followed by a funeral service at noon.

Matt Carman of Herriman has created a GoFundMe page to support Norman’s family and cover funeral expenses at https://gofund.me/d9a03a3a. As of Wednesday morning, nearly $11,000 had been raised.

“... the sudden and unexpected loss of Traycee Norman has left his family, friends and teammates mourning,” Carman wrote. “We are devastated that Traycee was taken from us so young.”
