The 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country teams were announced with 10 University of Wyoming student-athletes on the list. Five Cowboys and five Cowgirls were nominated based on achieving high remarks in the classroom and during competition throughout the season.

Hunter Brown, Jay Cox, Pete Mead, Kareem Mersal and Mason Norman were selected for the men while Gabby Drube, Kaylee Kearse, Sadie McMullen, Katelyn Mitchem and Jenae Ramirez were selected for the women.

Mitchem and Mersal will represent the Pokes at the upcoming NCAA Track & Field Championships.

Mitchem began her season receiving the Elite 90 Award at the 2022 Cross Country Championships. Mitchem earned the award with her perfect GPA and performance getting to the NCAA Championships as an individual. Mitchem placed in fifth at the MW Championships and then an impressive 14th place at the West Regional to earn her spot and take 143rd in Stillwater at the Championships. Her season continued from there. Mitchem set two school records during the indoor season in the 800 and the Mile. The senior from Colorado took two podium finishes at the MW Indoor Conference Championships, second in the Mile and third in the 800. That success continued during the outdoor season with school records set in the 1500, 3000M Steeplechase and the 5000, all followed by a second-place finish at conference and a spot in the NCAA Championships next week. Mersal set a personal best in the Long Jump at the MW Championships with a mark of 25-8.25. Mersal already owned the Wyoming school record in the event from his second-team All American status from the 2022 NCAA Championships. Mersal took fourth at the MW Championships and earned his spot at the NCAAs with a 12th place finish at the NCAA West First Rounds.

McMullen earned All Mountain West honors for her performance at the MW Outdoor Championships. McMullen went 20-0.5 in the Long Jump to earn her podium spot for the Cowgirls this season.

Norman set the Wyoming school record in the 3000M during the indoor season running a time of 8:03.79 and moved up to No. 3 all time at UW with a 14:05.50 performance in the 5K. Norman also helped the Pokes to a fourth place finish at the 2022 MW Cross Country Championships with a 23rd place finish at the event hosted in Laramie.

Cox set the school record in the 400M during the indoor season, running a 48.08 at the Colorado Invitational in January. Cox also broke into the Outdoor record books with the No. 6 performance in the 200M and No. 5 in the 400M. Cox ran a 47.49 in the 400M final at the MW Outdoor Championships for a seventh place finish for the Cowboys.

Pete Mead took fourth place in the High Jump at the MW Outdoor Championships and seventh at the Indoor Championships for the Pokes with Brown taking eighth in the Long Jump during the Outdoor season.

In the women’s 60M hurdle finals, Gabby Drube picked up points for the Cowgirls finishing eighth with a time of 8.83 at the MW Indoor Championships. Ramirez took eighth place in the 400 Hurdles clocking a time of 1:01.02 at the Outdoor Championships. Kearse moved into the Wyoming all-time top-10 list running a 2:10.74 in the 800M at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April to move into the record books at No. 8.
